Webzen Inc. (“Webzen”, “we”, or “us”) respects the privacy of everyone that uses our websites, games, and various related services. This privacy policy is designed to inform you about the type of information that we gather about you, how we may use that information, whether we disclose it to anyone, and the choices you have regarding our use of that information.

BY ACCESSING AND USING OUR SERVICES, YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY ALL TERMS AND CONDITIONS SET FORTH IN THIS PRIVACY POLICY. As used in these terms, “service” or “services” also include our websites, applications, as well as other services of Webzen, unless specifically stated otherwise.


1. General Principles

 

Webzen adheres to the following principles when processing your information:

  • Lawfulness, Fairness, and Transparency: Personal information is processed lawfully, fairly, and transparently.
  • Purpose Limitation: Personal information is collected only for specified, explicit, and legitimate purposes and is limited to what is necessary for those purposes.
  • Data Minimization: Webzen collects only the minimum amount of personal information required for providing its services.
  • Accuracy: Personal information is kept accurate and up-to-date.
  • Storage Limitation: Personal information is retained only for the period necessary to fulfill the collection purposes or as required by law.
  • Integrity and Confidentiality: Personal information is processed securely through appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect against unauthorized or unlawful processing, accidental loss, destruction, or damage.
  • Accountability: Webzen is responsible for ensuring compliance with these personal information processing principles.

 


2. Information We Collect


Webzen may use, record, systematize, store, update, modify, retrieve, delete, or otherwise process your information for the following purposes, using manual or automated means, and we also may use the information we collect to:

1) User Communication with Webzen 
When you contact us for customer support or respond to messages and communications we send, we may record the content of such communications.

General Inquiries: Email, Player ID, Device Information (automatically collected when inquiries are made via application)

Payment Inquiries: Email, Player ID, Device Information, Payment Details (e.g., order number, payment date and time, purchased items, etc.)

2) Event Participation and Prize Delivery

We may collect prize winner’s information necessary for event participation and prize delivery (contact information, address, name, account details, etc.).

3) Public Posting/ Shared Content: Some games allow you to publicly post, share, communicate, or transmit content through player forums, message boards, news feeds, status updates, sending messages or invitations to other users, chatting, or posting photos (collectively, “Public Postings”). We may collect and store archives of such Public Postings on Webzen servers, and all Public Postings are subject to this Privacy   Policy.

Such public posting or shared content may be visible to anyone who has access to our services and may also be viewable outside our websites or services. You should exercise caution, as Public Postings may result in the disclosure of personal information for which Webzen is not responsible. 

4) Information for Third Party Social Networks or Platforms: You may allow our services to interact with a third-party social network and platforms, which may provide us with data about you. If you choose to connect to one of our websites or applications through a third-party social network such as Facebook or Game Center (for iOS devices), we may collect personal information from your profile on such third-party social networks, such as your name, username, and photograph.

5) Chat Data

Webzen provides in-game communication (chat) features for users and informs you of the following:
Chat content may be stored and analyzed for purposes such as improving service quality, preventing misconduct, and protecting users. Once the processing purpose is fulfilled, chat data will be promptly deleted. If a report of legal violations of law, abusive language, fraud, or similar issues is received, Webzen may internally review the relevant chat records. Users must not use chat data to attack or harass others, and Webzen may issue warnings or restrict accounts if necessary. Children as defined by the laws of each country are prohibited from using Webzen’s chat features. 

6) Advertising Information

When you visit our website or use our apps, we may allow the collection of behavioral information via third-party cookies and SDKs to provide seamless services and deliver appropriate advertisements.

You can manage your preferences to allow or block the collection of behavioral data by third parties at any time.

- Advertising partners collecting and processing behavioral data: Adjust, AB180, Google, Meta, Apple

- Behavioral collection data method: Automatically collected when users visit our site or launch our app. 
Collected items: Device type, device model, OS version, IP, country, region, language, network environment, in-web activity, in-app activity, event date, acquisition channel, mobile advertising ID, cookie ID, event ID, game account number, PID.

7) Data for Testing Purposes (CBT)

We may conduct test services (hereinafter, "Test Services") for members during a specific period for a limited time. During the test period, game data may be changed, modified, added, or deleted to ensure service stability, and Webzen is not obligated to restore such data. Additionally, information acquired by users during the test period may be reset after the test serviced ends. 

8) Cookies and Similar Technologies

When collecting technical information and usage data that can be linked to and identify your account, Webzen may use cookies and other tracking technologies. Cookies may be used to store certain types of information each time you use our services. If you wish to refuse the use of cookies or want detailed information regarding the use of cookies, please refer to the “Cookies” section of this Privacy Policy.

2.3. Legal Basis for Processing

Webzen processes personal information based on one or more of the following legal grounds, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations:

1) Consent: When you have explicitly consented to the processing of your personal information for specific purposes (e.g., receiving marketing or promotional information). You may withdraw your consent at any time.

2) Contractual Necessity: When processing personal information is necessary to carry out a contract with you, such as for service provision, account management, or payment processing.

3) Legal Obligation: When processing personal information is required for Webzen to comply with legal obligations, such as responding to legal requests, fulfilling tax requirements, or protecting minors.  

4) Legitimate Interests: When processing personal information is necessary for Webzen's legitimate interests (e.g., service improvement, misuse prevention, security maintenance, internal analytics conduction), provided that such interests do not override your rights and freedoms.


 

3. Data Obtained from Minors

Webzen does not intentionally process any personal information of persons under the age of 16.

 

4. Use of information collected

 

We may use the information collected from you for a variety of purposes, primarily to provide our services and to keep you informed about them. We may also use your information for other purposes permitted by law. 

We (or a supplier or affiliate acting on our behalf and only under our instructions) may use your personal information, including personally identifiable information, for the following purposes: 

(a) To contact you—for example as part of customer service or to send you updates about our services)

(b) To manage your account and relationship with us and to enhance your experience when using our services.

(c) To conduct research or surveys and to invite you to participate in such research or surveys regarding our products or services.

(d) For marketing and promotional purposes related to our services or related third-party products. (If you do not wish for your data to be used in this way, please contact us through the Customer Center available within our services.)

(e) To send you offers, promotions, information, newsletters, and communications regarding our services, products, or merchandise, either on our behalf or third parties.

(f) To create reports, analyses, or similar services for our internal use, such as research or business intelligence, for example, to identify potential issues or trends with our services.

(g) To measure and analyze the effectiveness of advertising, including third-party advertising within the services.

(h) To monitor our services, including our websites, games, applications, and networks, and to ensure their proper operation.

(i) To resolve disputes or issues.

(j) To track purchases and usage information.

(k) To prevent cheating, crime, or misuse.


 

5. Information Security Measures and Data Retention Period

 

We maintain reasonable and appropriate physical, electronic, organizational, and procedural safeguards to protect your information. While we take reasonable precautions against loss, misuse, or unauthorized access, we cannot guarantee the security of data storage systems or transmission over the Internet, and we do not accept liability for such risks.

Data we collect is retained only for as long as is reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes described above, unless otherwise stipulated by relevant laws. Accordingly, upon account termination, deletion, or expiration, all personal information will be deleted unless applicable law requires us to retain the relevant personal information. Please note that information collected by third parties may not be subject to the same security protections as information you submit to us, and unless we are considered the responsible data controller for such information, we are not liable for its security. 



6. International Data Transfers

 

Webzen is a company based in the Republic of Korea. For the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy, all data we collect must be transferred to Korea, which may not provide the same level of data protection as your country of residence or the European Economic Area (EEA). By using our services or providing information to us, you acknowledge and consent to the transfer, processing, use, sharing, and storage of your information in jurisdictions outside your own, as described in this Privacy Policy

We transfer your personal information as necessary to provide our services and fulfill contractual obligations to you. 

If we transfer your personal information to countries that do not provide the same level of data protection as your country of residence, we will implement appropriate safeguards and security measures in accordance with applicable laws. Where applicable data protection laws mandate the lawful transfer of data abroad using EU-approved standard contractual clauses or other transfer agreements, we will transfer data pursuant to these clauses unless a more suitable transfer basis applies.

If you do not consent to the transfer, processing, use, sharing, and storage of your information in other jurisdictions, please do not use our service or provide us with your information.


 

7. Sharing with Business Partners

 

Webzen does not disclose personal information to external parties beyond the scope specified without your prior consent. However, we may share personal information in the following circumstances, as required by law or for the operation of our services:

1) Service Providers / Processors: Webzen may engage external professional service providers to process personal information such as cloud hosting (e.g., AWS, Google, Com2uS Platform), payment processing (e.g., Xsolla, MyCard), customer support tools, analytics providers, and anti-fraud solutions.

2 Affiliates/Group Companies: We may share personal information with Webzen's affiliates or group companies for integrated service provision or internal operations.

3) Advertising Partners: We may share data with advertising partners for personalized advertisements. If you are a California resident, you the right under the CCPA/CRPA to opt out of the “sale or sharing” of your personal information. For more details, please refer to the “8. Data Subject Rights and Withdrawal of Consent” section.

4) Legal and Regulatory Authorities: We may disclose personal information to government agencies, law enforcement authorities, or other regulatory bodies when required by law, court order, or other legal processes.

5) Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, sale, liquidation, or other corporate transactions involving Webzen, your personal information may be transferred or sold as part of the business asset. In such cases, your information will continue to be protected and used for the same purposes as set out in this Privacy Policy.


 

8. Data Subject Rights and Withdrawal of Consent

 

Depending on the laws of your country of residence, you may have various rights regarding your personal information. Webzen respects and supports the exercise of these rights.

1) Right of Access

You have the right to obtain confirmation as to whether we process your personal information, and if so, to access that data along with certain additional information. This includes details of the purposes of processing, the categories of personal information concerned, and the recipients of your information. You can access your personal information by logging into your account or by contacting us at contact@webzen.com. If you wish to manage information received from social networks, please adjust your privacy settings on the relevant social networking channels in accordance with their policies.

2) Right to Rectification

You have the right to request correction of inaccurate personal information concerning you and, considering the purposes of processing, to have incomplete data completed. You can change or update your information by logging into your account or contacting us at contact@webzen.com.

3) Right to Erasure (“Right to be Forgotten”)

You have the right to request the deletion of unnecessary personal information. If you terminate or delete your account, we will delete your account information unless retention is required by law. Please note that some information, including content you or others have shared, copied, or stored may remain visible to others even after deletion. You can request the deletion of your information by logging into your account or by contacting us at contact@webzen.com.

4) Right to Restriction of Processing

You have the right to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances, such as: 1) If  you contest the accuracy of the data; (2) If  processing is unlawful but you oppose erasure; (3) If  we no longer need the data for the purposes of our processing, but you require if for the establishment, exercise, or defense of legal claims; or (4) If  you have objected to processing and verification is pending.

When processing is restricted on these grounds, we may continue to store your personal data. However, we will only do so if: (a) we have your consent; (b) for the establishment, exercise, or defense of legal claims; (c) for the protection of the rights of another natural or legal person; or (d) for reasons of important public interest. 5) Right to Object to Processing

You have the right to object to our processing of your personal information for reasons related to your particular situation, but only if the legal basis for the processing is the performance of a task carried out in public interest or legitimate interest pursued by us or by a third party or in the exercise of any official authority vested in us. If you object, we will cease processing unless we demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests, rights, and freedoms, or if processing is necessary for the establishment, exercise, or defense of legal claims. 6) Right to Object to Processing for Direct Marketing Purposes

You have the right to object at any time to the processing of your personal information for direct marketing purposes, including profiling related to direct marketing. 7) Right to Object to Processing for Scientific, Historical, or Statistical Purposes

You may object, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to the processing of your personal information for scientific or historical research or statistical purposes, unless processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out for reasons of public interest. 8) Right to Data Portability

Where processing of personal information is carried out by automated means, you have the right to receive your personal information from us in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format, and the right to transmit that personal information to another controller. 9) Right to Lodge a Complaint with a Supervisory Authority

If you believe our processing of your personal information violates data protection laws, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority responsible for data protection.

10) Right to Withdraw Consent

Where processing your personal information is based on your consent, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal. You may withdraw consent at any time via your game settings or by contacting us at contact@webzen.com.


 

9. Cookies
 

We use "Cookies", which are text files that are stored on your computer for operational purposes, and to collect data to analyze user patterns to improve the browsing experience of our website. Cookies are only read by the server that placed them, and the server is unable to execute any code or implant virus. Control and access of information from first party Cookies will not be shared with any other parties.

Only non-personal information is stored and collected on an aggregated and anonymous basis from Cookies, and the use will be limited to one of the cases below from our websites:
1) To remember your settings and actions so that some of the entry fields or selections from our website can be automatically completed for your convenience.
2) To gather anonymous statistics to analyze which videos were watched and/or which banner was clicked, etc., to make our website more useful and interesting to users.
3) For website operation purposes, such as login authentication.

The types of Cookies used in our website are:
1) Session Cookies: Used for login authentication purposes and are automatically deleted from your hard drive after you close your browser.
2) Persistent Cookies: Used to remember your settings for a predefined duration and are automatically deleted from your hard drive upon expiry.

There may be third-party server networks to serve advertisements on or in connection with our websites. Third-party companies can send their own cookies to your hard drive because your web browser must request such advertising banners from the third-party network servers. However, we only authorize third-party servers to use anonymous cookies for anonymous targeting. We do NOT permit third-party servers to collect personally identifiable information about you. If you want to prevent third-party servers and/or third-party service providers from sending and reading cookies on your computer, you must visit each third-party website and opt out.

You may prevent the use of cookies by changing the relevant settings in your browser software. Please note that if you disable cookies, some features (such as billing) may not function properly or may operate more slowly. 11. Your California Privacy Rights

California residents have the right to receive (a) information identifying any third-party company to whom Webzen may have disclosed (within the previous calendar year) his/her personal information for that company’s direct marketing purposes, and (b) a description of the categories of personal information disclosed. Furthermore, California Residents who have established business relationship with Webzen may, at any time, choose to opt out of Webzen’s disclosure of their personal information to third parties for direct marketing purposes. Thus, if you are a California resident, and wish to obtain such information and/or opt-out of such disclosure, please send a request email to contact@webzen.com.
1) Right to Opt-Out of Sale/Sharing

California residents have the right under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) to opt-out of the sale or sharing of their personal information. Even if Webzen does not directly sell your personal information, sharing data with third-party advertising networks for targeted advertising or profiling purposes may be considered “sharing” under these laws.  You can exercise this right by contacting us at contact@webzen.com.   

2) Right to Limit Use/Disclosure of Sensitive Personal Information

California residents have the right under CPRA to limit the use and disclosure of sensitive personal information collected about them.

Webzen will notify users of any material changes through appropriate means, such as in-app notifications, email, or website announcements.
